“In this story, the alien civilization found our methods of measuring to be absurd; they had set what we call ‘the speed of light’ to zero. As if to mean something like an impossibly peculiar stillness. All other measurements, including (at least in my version) time — were expressed as negative numbers; as fractions of light-zero.
Of course, we could also set like equal to 1, and call the result ‘unrestrained movement’, or, at least, the limits of such movements in the dimensions we are familiar with and can ordinarily consider in thought. In either case, real-world phenomenon are described as ‘light slowed down’; matter is a kind of slower light. Stars (and organisms) actually ‘make time(space)’ together. Each way an organism ‘ages’ is a direct result of its biorelation with light, and thus with time.”
