I often mention my disdain for news. But every once in a great while, there is something in there I can feel a sense of celebration about. And this is one of those moments.

As a child, I revered machines… I adored them, and believed technology would deliver a utopia. The Blue Angels were heroes of mine, and when I was 6 I had a model set of them.

But as an adult I realized that machines were ripping life on Earth and human beings to shreds. Although I have not been able to get specific figures from the Navy, my estimate is that it costs something on the order of $50,000.00 per minute to keep 6 of these atrocities airborne. It could, in fact, be much higher, and, circa 2016, with no one doing the accounting… a single display of this nature could be the trigger that ends life on Earth. Since no one is doing the math, no one actually has any idea what the real costs… not merely the cash costs… are.

So I am glad to hear that the politicians in SF, however isolated they may be in terms of being a small minority, have some sense about this matter, and intend to act upon it. Of course, unless they actually do it… it’s just more news noise. But I am hopeful they will stay the course.
