What this article plays down is that most of the raccoons in that are live-trapped in San Francisco are simply killed. Why? Because people despise wild animals, in general. They have no respect for the intelligent synathropes that live among us. The coyotes are also killed, many by poison. And people poison rats which kill the raptors.

And all of this is horribly, terribly wrong. I have had a family near me for many years. There is always one or two moving through my tiny yard late in the night. Sometimes I feed them. Their path here is extremely difficult and fraught with many terrible dangers.
