“If they realized the cost of each electronic image, and what it costs to produce transmit, replicate and attend them? Well, they wouldn’t want to. It would terrify them to discover that what they are circulating is obliterating what they think they are celebrating. And it is obliterating their minds and attentional resources as well. In ways they cannot yet imagine. And will fail to. Because the assets they imagine with are those they are assaulting… first.

But it is. And does. In new ways and domains each instant. Here’s part of why: each hour of present time is 800,000 years of human activity. The impact of that is more staggering to our ecologies than bombs or objects striking us from space. And it is also invisible. Until the last possible moment.

That moment was yesterday. And it has been for over 50 years now.”
