I am not against quoting others. In fact, I appreciate being quoted. And I quote intelligent and creative friends. But you will find me quoting the famous with exceptional rarity. Those are not really people any more. They do not need -or appreciate- my loyalty or support. At all.
I am indicting a specific -class- of -personalities and media objects- that acquire our replication activities by converting us. I believe these, in general, and especially in the West, are lethal to our intelligence, and their memetic output most often -replaces- our developmental communication.
Think about that last remark.
And here’s the crucial thing no one is noticing: their comm gestures are -not of the same class as our own-. Their class dominates ours, like the Egyptians are said to have dominated the Jews. I do not like to see my friends and relations building their pyramids. Strangely, however, my friends and electronic social relations often take grave offense when I suggest that they speak -for themselves- with -their own mind and mouth-.
Yet nothing else will suffice. I do not care what you think Rumi said (in -English? Seriously??!!) and would far rather hear about the color of your morning’s movement. Literally. The famous already have enough channels of broadcast dominance.
How about we learn to surpass them together?
Maybe that begins with an agreement to promote each other and the dreams we most trust… instead.
