One reason our desires are often thwarted is that reality is far more relationally infinite than anything that can possibly be desired. Even when we ‘achieve’ our desires… we are still, most of us, thwarted. Perhaps our enervated attempt to impose boundaries and controls on processes of absurd scale and complexity… is confused… since, in fact, we are (largely) at their mercy, so to speak. This is why many sages imply that we might… prosper from accord with the character of the moment and the context.
