When I am deeply sad, or hopeless… I listen to a recording of passages from angry samurai films in Japanese. Their hasty, hubristic gargling invariably acts like emotional heroin, and soon, I am having some kind of twilight experience wherein the contrast between tragedy, atrocity and comedy is so pathologically torqued that solid negative emotions simply cannot survive. The gargling sounds are so absurd and silly, and righteous, and… being a human being is ridiculous in the extreme. Especially now.
