Now as regards emotions, I at least abstractly realize I am largely reacting to histories, projections, unspoken evaluations… and so on. Yet the goal is not to become bereft of my humanity or even my ego. Amputation or inhibition is not the result I am looking for. The ego is the developmental body of a true and vital aspect of self; I do not believe it was meant to be ejected or lost. Its nature changes, and the nature of the change is as mysterious as it is exquisite, but this change is not killing, amputation or disappearance. Indeed, it could be understood to be the opposite — a kind of dynamic flow of being into presence that defies ordinary categories or appearances altogether.
