Down By Law

Down by the murder.
They made a clamor.
Buried all the treasure.
Sifted all the misters.
Down by the dead one.
They made a newscast.
Death raised charades.
And flattened us to fighters.
Down by the stains.
The reek of culture seethes.
A stink of children killed.
And monsters made of law.

Down where the wings died.
There’s a quiet angel.
A starry promise there sustained.
Ignored like hands or smiles.
Down by the wrong.
A strand of soul is singing.
A tiny, almost silent song.
A living truth is ringing.
Down where we are falling down.
A shining stream invites us.
Back, beyond our strife.
To all that must unite us.
