The worst possible outcome for life on Earth would be the idea that humans have regarding a myth of machine-gods. They call it ‘The Singularity’. This is the left-hemisphere’s ‘analytical replacement’ for the human relationships with time, nature, wisdom, vitality, viridity, and wonder. In it, we become, effectively, symbionts with devices. We become ‘part machine’ with great benefits and powers being finally ‘achieved’ as our own technology-extended ‘bodies’.

We are already device symbionts. And we are not the guests, as we imagine. We are the food. And this isn’t really symbiosis, either. It’s parasitism.

Now what this is replacing, which is never discussed, is something so astonishing and immediately accessible that it cannot be sold. It cannot be co-opted (and thus must be replaced). Nature is, actually, the source of the metaphors of the singularity. All of them. And already ‘developed’ as ‘existing and potential technologies’ are forms and frameworks of relation and mutual learning that make the sum of machines our species will ever produce appear like dessicated rodent excreta in comparison.

You cannot -replace- the basis of life, intelligence, ‘computation’ and relational transentience with -little hammers and cogs-. No matter how sophisticated they may appear or how ‘lifelike’ their function. What happens when we do this is we receive a glorified sliver of less than we are as the bearer of a promise of being … less than we are. And we take the bait. Every time. All throughout the modern history of our species. Over, and over again.

Not this time.

Singularity my nether recesses. I want you to discover the ‘functions’ hidden in -organism-, which, in -every- case, is unthinkably more ‘advanced’ and ‘futuristic’ and ‘capable of impossible problem-solving and learning’ than any model or description humans can assemble. A forest is an intelligence that is -billions of years old-. Allow me to suggest that you -succeed in contacting and activating your relationship with that- before you get married to a cell-phone.

Seriously.

Naturelarity. Now.
