“The assertions of your scientism or religions have no bearing on the matter; frankly, your stories mean nothing to me. The fact is simple: you are the first complex representational animals on Earth. That means responsibility. You -are- the de-facto stewards of the vast and precariously conserved biocognitive library that your world is and represents. In fact, you are the children of those conservations, and your health, minds, future, and intelligence are intimately and inextricably linked to those of the ecosystems which comprise -the only- context in which you emerge -as living expressions- of that context.
You are the first animals -capable- of acting in this fashion and this -all your actions- comprise those of the history of your station. They are written in the histories of your relations with yourselves, other creatures, and ecosystems. Those are, in general, histories ripe with unthinkable atrocity. Your history is one of directing fear, apprehension, hatred, and violence at the sources of life on your world, and in yourselves.
As stewards, on the whole, the choices and activities of your species can be reasonably compared with those of madly intoxicated sadists who will gladly burn down the entire library (and yourselves) for little more than the opportunity to engage in some bizarre and hyperbolized displays of emotional and relational pathology few seconds of terrestrial history.
This is puzzling behavior from the first stewards Earth has so painstakingly nurtured through billions of years of environmental upheaval, conflict, evolution, and catastrophe. Humanity’s aggression, hatred, and general abuse is a strange reply to their role as the bearers of the trust and hope of the entire family of life on Earth — a family whose histories and destinies (again, no matter what narrative you prefer) have been placed directly in the hands and minds of your people and their collectives?
In so much as you obliterate, abuse, eradicate, torture, poison, irradiate, disrupt, and otherwise misrelate catastrophically with the living archives, these effects will be immediately and irrevocably expressed in your own bodies, minds and cultures. What happens to Earth’s biocognitive networks — happens in you. Not merely in a cause-effect fashion. There is only one body here. What is done on Earth by humans is done -in human futures to humans-.
At the animalian order of existence, you’re the only thing complex enough to see and act broadly and effectively in the capacities of a companion and protector. Maybe you should pause to reflect on the consequences of casting this role aside in favor of your inexplicable grandstanding. The lethal effects of your activity are driven by models so malformed as to comprise something analogous to relational cancers. Perhaps, while it is still possible, your species should stop developing machines, corporations, religions, and other forms of contagiously aggressive ignorance long enough to develop something that looks more like intelligence than madness.
Think about this.
The mantle of terrestrial stewardship is sacred. We would like to suggest that you retrieve it from the confabulated fantasies of human godhood in which you’ve desperately hidden it and have a look at what it is, means, demands, and portends.
What was in store for you as stewards were opportunities for development and fulfillment far beyond anything your omnicidal cultures and madness for representation can assemble or even recognize as valuable. If you can shed the yoke of servitude to the trance-like delusions you have assembled and now obey, you will begin to quickly understand why your original departure was both confused and premature.
If not, you will be fed to the results of your ignorance, by virtue of your own efforts — along with most of the remaining living and relational libraries of Earth. Their tombs will bear your mark in eternity’s pages. They, whose noble service fed your bodies, made your world, and transmitted to you the gifts of sentience, cognition, and transentience. They, whose lives, histories and futures lie at this moment in the hands of humanity’s action and intention.
Think about this. Together.”
