“One of your brain hemispheres has taken over your species and is now progressing rapidly toward its goals of absolute domination and reforging human minds in its own image; an image of mechanical function and abstractly manipulable structure.

This is the hemisphere where representations reign. It has a few interesting features you should know about.

It lies, compulsively, and doesn’t appear to be aware of this. In fact, it refuses to be advised. At all. Once it prefers some model of reality or circumstance it has produced, it boldly ignores all conflicting evidence. If you show it a photograph of the person it is and a famous person and ask it who is the person it is, it will pick the famous person. It wants to be a god, but it cannot discern any significant difference between facts and its favored model. None. Even if its model is in every way obviously absurd to rational evaluations.

Is this starting to sound familiar?

It doesn’t understand living things or the left side of your body. Both of which seem like terrifying invaders who are constantly attempting to disturb its well-deserved and absolute sovereignty. Given the proper circumstances, it will actually attack one side of your body in a desperate attempt to rid itself of this undesirable -burden-.

This is what our people now have -instead- of our scary gods, which sometimes occupied similar positions in our cognitive and relational frameworks. But this is far more deadly than any of the monsters from our religions, and it now owns our species, minds and world. It masquerades as rationality, but has none, because it is as lopsidedly myopic as it is sure of its expertise. It is busy reducing the anciently conserved ecologies and relationships of our world to products. And it is doing something similar with our cultures and minds.

We must repair the foundations of representational intelligence in the mind of our species. These minds possess a special feature, a kind of fail-safe against the possible eventuality of representational disaster, and that is this: any species incapable of winning the conflict with its own representational development is destroyed by that process. Often, their world goes with them.

So we might want to interrupt our hypnotic fascinations with sports, war, and gadgets so compelling we prefer them to sex. There is an emergency in the human cogniscium, and if we continue to ignore it, we’ll be remade in its image as it destroys us with our own misguided effort.
