Ways of knowing and schemas of identity are representational artifacts. They are cognitive machines. They should never vie to become one’s eyes, to replace one’s seeing. Anything that aggressive should be handled with exceptional care, and narrowly limited to appropriate contexts. Just as one’s car should not try to become one’s legs (and think of all that would be denied the unfortunate subject of such a curse), one’s perspectival methods should never become one’s seeing.
