The power of attention is to consciousness as the power of agreement is to culture. But we are robbed of our understanding of these matters by the common milieus in which we find ourselves. And thus it is no accident that we find, in general, all of the foundational cultural agreements are discovered to have been made prior to our arrival or participation. Thus this power is co-opted against us and our experience of agreement becomes its shadow: compliance.

But we can retrieve the opportunities, potentials and protections of agreement simply by realizing that when we act in unison, we are directing this force intentionally… and this awareness frees us to achieve new depths of cooperative and objective intelligence. It is possible to establish microcultures whose integral lifespan is minute, yet whose impact can transform an entire nation — or possibly human intelligence itself — overnight.
