I ask you to reject criticisms of your patriotism or citizenship which rest upon the accusation that you do not appreciate the hardships necessary to win and protect your nominal ‘rights’; in fact, your questioning is the imperative expression of that very patriotism and citizenship which, without your true and deep concern, would soon be little more than cages and prisons dressed up as wings.

Further, wars and stupidity do not protect your nation, your rights, or your citizenship — but those who insist upon them must convince you otherwise, and it is they who are the enemies of liberty, democracy, and intelligence itself — again, dressed up as its most vocal and agitated protectors.
