I do not believe we have ever witnessed anything like the forms of democracy that our ancestors imagined establishing. What we have now is a disease, not a method, and its produce is monsters… not government.

I do believe we have the capacity to establish and enjoy forms of consensus that serve the people while respecting and relating sustainably with the living environments that provide the contexts in which our hopes and goals may possibly flourish.

Yet this goal is far from our current predicaments, and the problems we face are arrayed against this hope like weapons. We bring habitual malfunction to crisis, and the result is deeper crisis. A new path for us must begin with noticing both the dangers we have too long ignored, and the opportunities hidden within them.

What we have in the United States is not really a government so much as it is a highly adaptive enemy. It is not an enemy of anything in particular, so much as it as an enemy for hire to the highest bidder. A mercenary, of sorts, without the mercy. If any of us are to taste freedom, we must do so in unison. Together with our peers, our planet, and the living places. The time of pockets of liberty paid for by the blood of innocents must end here.

And the path to a new way will be more amazing than our ideas. Indeed, it may even appear divine. For so long and so profoundly have we suffered that we may not even recognize it at first. Indeed, it will come in a form that many will attack, and more still will ignore.

For a time. But only for a time. And then the seed we make will sprout. At that moment, the world will shake, and the children of humanity will realize their power, their promise and the hope of living out destinies as noble and sincere as our deepest inspirations toward mutual concern, learning, intimacy, and effective action.

The grim appearance of the moment is no illusion. We hover at the brink of annihilation. And in such times, the ravenous forces become armed and desperate. They will do everything in their power to extract resources and possibility from our lives and world. If we will not oppose this, we will become first the victims, and then the allies of their vampiric escapade. But there are forces more true and beautiful than all we must oppose.

And those forces lie hidden within each other, and the very predicaments we know and suffer together. Do not keep hope without action. And in learning to act, let us rise far beyond the thin examples that comprise mere stopgaps. We must establish new ways of being human together, with and for each other and our world. This will not be done with quotes and advertisements. It will be marriages. Families. Tightly-knit units of human intelligence and ability whose powers cannot be predicted nor opposed.

We are the seeds, and our travail is, in fact, the rain. Together, we shall break the shell. Together, we shall reach up, through the soil, to the sunlight of a future worth becoming. In these matters of urgent mutuality, I am with you with my entire life and heart.
