I strongly suspect that Avaefiir gave herself to the birds. My thought runs thuswise: her most recent web was her finest since she lost 3 right legs in an altercation with a probable wasp. But unlike her previous webs, she was on the other side of it — the outside. I think that what stymied me about her being on the inside was that I didn’t realize it was a mode of protection. A mode she gave up when, after nearly a month with little or no food, she was 1/3rd of her previous size, and, probably, not getting any food. Since she made that web, she stayed in its center almost all the time, a behavior she never previously exhibited, even when healthy. I think she made a simple evaluation: the lack of incoming food meant death. If her death was to be meaningful, she would needs become food herself. I believe she gave herself to the birds. Purposefully.
