I am now beginning to realize that vehicular travel radically alters our relationships with time in ways I had never before imagined or examined. But the most astonishing thing is that, not very long ago at all, most of the ‘vehicles’ were alive — and we had living relationships with them.

I am obliged to reflect upon what a living vehicle might mean for one’s relationships with time (and place). What does it mean to us, now that nearly all of them are objects? And not simply to our relationships with time, but to the development and expressions of our minds themselves.
