The most important thing for human beings are contexts that call us into roles we find meaningful, developmentally robust, interesting, and healthy. We are creatures who seek roles, and the roles on offer by our modern cultures are, essentially, the roles of slaves.
But we now have enough know-how, technology, and ability that we no longer need the cultures that demand our slavery and cast us endlessly in the role of victim, criminal, slave, or subject.
We can establish our own cultures. Forms and and functions of cooperative endeavor never seen before. The question is, how long will it take for us to discover this? Will we take it as our most urgent directive now, or will we wait until we and our world have been nearly destroyed?
