Sages worth their salt do not prophecy darkness in order inform us of the future. Their presentation is like that of radar, or far-seeing. They show us what we are creating, what we are moving towards — and challenge us to surpass the monsters we ourselves are summoning. Taking them literally is, most often, the move of an idiot, and results in the concretization and direct embodiment of the threats thus signaled.
