The finest assets developed and conserved for us over the evolution of life on earth are not possessed by us. What we possess is their potential to emerge in and as our lives, rather than some specific thing or ability. This means that nearly all of what it means to be human is found in becoming, together with other living places and beings.
We do not possess intelligence, wisdom, insight, or even mechanical ability. What happens is that the contexts we allow and assemble, the contexts we immerse ourselves in participation with, catalyze the specific emergence and development of our minds and senses… our intelligence, and our abilities. There is no catalog of these abilities. There are billions of them, and nearly all of them appear impossible or fantastical to rationality for a single reason:
Rationality is about what an individual possesses.
Nearly none of our assets are or can be understood this way.
So we are scripted to believe in models of our ability which are about as much like what we actually are as a photograph of a corpse is like a living person.
We call each other and our world into being. We must now learn to issue calls worthy of our humanity, and to respond only to those calls that draw us into intimacy with our nature, Nature itself, intelligence, insight, and relational excellence.
