I think it’s weird and wrong the way science paints the brain as a distinct organ. An organism is not a machine. It is not actually comprised of parts, at all. The idea of parts is a convenience, and while the distinct organs are reasonably distinguishable enough to qualify as organs, I find it exceptionally stupid to consider an organ like the brain -only or nearly only- in isolation from the other organs, and even the world. The brain is not an isolated object, and can never be this. It is not even cognitively isolated! More, still, the gut is the vastly far more ancient way of knowing, and the immune system is practically an alien intelligence. So I think we are confused about brains. It’s nearly as bad as if we were studying fish without recognizing their relationships with water, and thus we’re really certain that fish are always dry, and people who say otherwise are mad — because there is ‘no evidence of wet fish in our archives’.
