If we are not empowered to deeply understand the peculiar character and dangers of our relationships with language and knowledge, these faculties, even memory, become dangerous assets in an inner and cultural game that wants to master us. If we are to endow our children with language, we must never fail to endow them also with the critical and perspectival faculties necessary to understand its clandestine dangers and powers. Only then may we have hope of sane lives and cultures. Only then may the dreams of liberation held so dear by our ancestors come within reach.
