I am beginning to suspect that what we call ‘mania’ may have something to do with the expectation of death. Perhaps this is actually the ‘excitement’ that comes at or near the time of death… happening ‘out of time’. This could be the result of undergoing such traumas as must reasonably be associated with death, or, at the very least, sudden and radical transformation.
