People are not instances of a human template, as we too often imagine. They are, instead, instances of the human -immersed within cultural templates-. Thus, rather than actually being ‘human’, many of them are largely humans -being culture-… which is a perfect image of ‘the alien’ dangerously ensconced within familiar culture. ‘The Invasion of the Body Snatchers’ was so compelling because it was true. But the invaders were not aliens; they were ideas and ideologies.
