Evolution as we currently (rather contentiously) understand it, is a -necessary- cause of the incredible sophistication and diversity of life on Earth — but it is not a -sufficient- cause. The forces we understand and crudely represent in our theories appear to be necessary to the existence and sophistication of the diversely endowed organismal branches of life… but they are not (and cannot be) -the cause of them-.
Similarly, the beating of your heart is a necessary cause of your continued existence, but your heartbeat did not ‘create’ you.
Whatever the sufficient cause(s) of life may be… they have not yet been framed in any way accessible to our current state of consciousness. The fairy-tales we tell by way of explanation have sacred and complex import, but they are not explanations of the sufficient cause(s) of life, either. In fact, they serve an entirely different set of purposes, which I will not here detail…
