Part of the definition of intelligence is the capacity to survive your relationship with it.

This must mean the ability to manage its development and activity in such a way as to insure that the associated faculties generally progress beneficially; for it appears our peculiar vulnerabilities incline us toward developing modes of intelligence that mimic benefit, but deliver little more than their own dominance, preservation and contagion.
