Vengeance which masquerades as ‘Justice’ is a mimetic poison that is tearing our lives and world (and hearts) to shreds. It’s the demon’s gambit, which makes us complicit in torture, and our cultures seem bent upon taking it at every possible opportunity. People and collectives that commit violence and crimes are -signaling- about the nature, character and content of the cultural medium. When it is toxic, they absorb this, and signal. The correct move is to recognize the signal, trace it back to its sources, and resolve it gently and firmly there. The alternative that we too commonly enforce simply amplifies the toxin and makes it triply more contagious.
