In my heart there thrives a strange and nameless animal, which has no face. And if you could see it, its form would warp and change like water — through all the forms of every creature alive, and all those past, and all that will be. And this you would know to be my heart.

For the heart of a human being is not human. It is this nameless flow. And it has no voice like a person’s… but a voice like the action of every creature’s activity and way in all of time.

And when our eyes meet in silence, and penetrate to each other’s root… these animals of our hearts discover each other; they frolic and weep… and tell the silent truths that words may never carry.
