“It’s a strange phenomenon, what goes on in our current consciousness. The more familiar something is, the less interested we are supposed to be in it. We may toil to study every detailed aspect of the lives or workings of someone or something relatively foreign to our environment, or even someones and somethings that don’t actually exist anywhere. Our artists, writers, film-makers, etc put a lot of energy into crafting and delivering representations of the foreign or non-existent for our scrutiny and study. For most of us, the beings and technologies we encounter and rely on every day remain a complete mystery to us, a mystery we’re not the least bit concerned with, either because we consider it boring, or because we figure there are specialists among us whose responsibility it is to know about them. Really, in a lot of cases, we’re not even supposed to try to learn about these familiars. There are sanctions against it. We might hurt ourselves, or screw things up for others. We should leave all of that to the proper authorities.” — Ryan HeavyHead
