It seems relatively obvious to me that small(er) creatures live at an increased rate of temporal flow. Interestingly, their vocalizations are usually high-pitched. When women or those thus trained ‘raise the pitch’ of their voice to talk to children or small creatures, some think this silly. I suggest, however, that this pitch-raising actually contains more information per interval. Think about this.

Information is encoded in waves of sound. These waves occur more frequently over time with higher pitches. In essence, raising the pitch allows us to -=encode more information per temporal interval=-.

Further, when we cry, an act that is usually a combination of a deep need to be heard and understood coupled with the expression of pain (or sometimes ecstasy)… our voice acquires an extremely high pitch — carrying the maximum amount of information per interval. So, too, with the ‘scream’ of a woman in terror, agony, or desperation. So, too, when we use this feature of communication in the act we call ‘singing’.

I also suspect that animals such as dogs, who also live at a higher temporal rate, hear our common voices as slow garbles. And they hate sirens… because their hearing is attuned to their rate of temporal flow, and thus, a siren, whose high pitch is extreme, carries a painful amount of information-per-interval. The dog may experience the siren as an aural attack, in part, for this reason.
