The move by governments to more deeply criminalize media-sharing is indicative of the diseases deeply affecting our cultures and minds. In essence, some 60% of adult citizens of the United States, and a larger number of youths have been rendered as felons by their participation in the internet.
This is analogous to intelligence-sharing. In our culture, intelligence is owned, like the planet and genomes. Those who own it use it to fleece, kill and enslave others. They have no respect for our world or lives. They have no respect for the burgeoning networks that carry our communications activity. They respect the capacity of law to destroy the lives of people who share information. And they respect the capacity of the law to protect their rights to do so, and to profit handsomely from these opportunities.
It is these beings and corporations who are the danger to our lives, minds and sovereignty, and not those they intend to prosecute. There is no prison large enough to house all the offenders. The cost to do so would be born by us, not those responsible for insisting we be prosecuted.
The future is on the operating table, and the surgeons are the most rapaciously greedy and catastrophically ignorant human organizations on the planet. We are either going to move toward a more permissive communications environment or a terrifyingly draconian world. The costs of the latter move are inconceivably abysmal.
I personally believe that the whole idea of copyright must die. Now. If it does not, we shall be dying in its place. And for the most ridiculous reasons in human history.
