Nothing is as we think it, and this is why it can be fiercely astonishing to establish direct contact with reality. Or even ourselves. Or animals. Or the sky. They are right there, all the time, but we cannot actually recognize this because we are thinking a lot and the models we use prescribe what they shall reveal. Generally, no model will reveal what dissolves or diminishes it. They are, in this sense, self-interested.
