Our ordinary lives will only rarely catalyze the necessity of significant growth. Crises amends this. Like the nightmare, in which we are close to our unique transcending powers and the solutions they comprise (but cannot yet see this) — crises in our lives are opportunities that bring us closer to our most fundamental powers and inner resources.

These capacities are the basis of our being, and they are not like our ideas about them. They are not like anything we know. They exceed the known like the kiss of one’s beloved exceeds the word ‘kiss’.
