If we could explain to our children that the study of mathematics is the only way to understand ‘new directions’ that ‘cannot be represented on the compass’… and that it is -=another way of seeing=- which invests our imaginations with new and otherwise unlikely capacities of imagining change over time through multiple perspectives at once…

… I suspect they would begin to learn it in secret, on their own… whether or not the schools could teach them, and whether or not they found the methods used by schools palatable. Personally, I find them horrific, tedious, and primitive… and this is something we must solve… for ourselves and our children.

If there is one domain of education in which we have almost completely failed, it is making the study of mathematics exciting. This is something that we must change if we are to awaken ourselves and our children to something more like intelligence than what we are currently stumbling around with.
