So, here’s the kind of thing that makes one believe in zazen, which is, itself, fairly boring. I mean, mainly, you simply sit there, and really closely inhabit your breathing. Perhaps you work on a koan, but it’s still just sitting, stillness, settling.
The past 3 times I sat, I received a phone call during each session. My phone was off, so the call was recorded. Each time, during the meditation, a visual narrative involving the specific caller in question arose, gained urgency, and departed. This is not evidence of skill or prowess on my part. It is simply the nature of the mind when at peace, and perhaps at love as well.
