We use stories to navigate in the complex domains of culture and human activity. They are, in a sense, what we ‘see’ as a ‘result’ of our own presence or interaction. But they are illusions. Our experience happens in domains that are tangential to and vastly more dimensional than language or ideas. We use ideas like a map, but the terrain is not like the map — in fact, the map, in this case, is what we should understand as an illusion of convenience.
