English is characteristically litigious; many of us are trained to think in dualities and to respond to accusations from childhood. We eventually learn to simulate an inner courtroom in which we prosecute and defend imaginary cases. This is most often a response to our culture and our parents, both of whom stand in as prosecutors during our development.
