Representational animals acquire, invent and become deeply involved in roles. Though some nonhuman animals may adopt relatively modest roles beyond those their biology demands… and some even seem attracted to this possibility… it is only in representational animals like ourselves that this new dimension of animalian experience and expression arises. It turns out that it is as dangerous as it is potentially transcendent.
