A more comprehensible mode of reincarnation might be that each soul, while distinct, acquires peculiar relationships with myriads of people who are dying while it is gestating as an embryo. In this model, we would maintain some distinct personhood through time, whilst acquiring features and layers of character from those who have seen and know the world we are about to be born into.
