It would be interesting to see the actual article; but the basic idea is sound enough. I have experienced a variety of uncommon perceptual states, and although I have only rarely had anything like an OBE, it seems clear from my experiences that brain rhythms (and the temporal lobes are the grand candidate here) and activity are occasionally in states that produce extreme nonordinary perceptions.
