Laika was a dog we sent into orbit in a tiny capsule to die. Once, she enjoyed a life of lived relation. But she became a research object, and died in a silver sphere, high above all that she knew, loved, and hoped to return to. We are Laika. Technology is the bubble. Like her, we have no idea what has happened. We understand neither the mission, nor the strangely distant image of the Earth, spinning far below us.
