Down beneath what we recognize are the symmetries from which our most rudimentary metrics are formed. By these we understand identity and meaning; and yet, most of us will live and die with inherited metrics whose sources we neither know nor are involved with. Nearly none of us will know the liberty that comes from choosing or creating rather than being converted… but we must know this.
