There is inherent value; as in a stone or feather — a seed, or a tree. There is value that we ‘add’ to something inherent, as when a branch becomes a staff or a bow in our hands. But then, there are things which have no inherent value. They acquire value through their function-relationships within abstracted contexts, and they are associated with ideas. Money, a cell phone. Stocks.
