Within us there is a root formed of the plants, the sky, the world, the animals. The sheath of our humanity is woven around this invisible core. This is why we feel their plights, should we care to, and even their minds and hearts — if we will but travel deeply. Without us, they have no voice. Yet, without them, our voices are rendered into caricatures. In fact, without them — we are not ourselves.
