I am beginning to suspect that many of our ancients and ancestors thought ‘up’ = heaven (where the gods are, eternal, because, in fact, the gods (understood as constellations) are stars). Earth was not exactly this world, but a plane in the equinoctal ecliptic. Tartarus was down or beneath Earth’s crust. All that arrived on Earth ‘fell’ or arose from heaven. So Adam and Eve went to a tree… and fell like leaves.
